Halloween is just around the corner! Which means it’s the perfect time to brush off the cobwebs for an awesome office party. Although it’s not a national holiday, many offices across the nation take part/ have anticipation for the office Halloween party, costume contest, and office pranks. So if your office is looking for ways to improve morale this fall consider some of these fun ideas because Halloween, unlike Christmas, is a holiday that gives all the employees the opportunity to participate in.
1. Have a costume contest and parade
Have a costume day at work that encourages employees to wear their best costume creations! Make a department activity or host an office-wide parade. Try out different awards such as; best costume, funniest costume, etc. For this activity make sure to plan ahead to give team members notice and give meaningful gifts.
2. Have a Scary Halloween Breakfast or a Luncheon
Spider leg donuts or mummy sausages! This is where the potluck brings team members together. Have a contest for whoever brings the most ghoulish meal or the craziest use of everyday ingredients. You can even make it simple by throwing up some decorations and ordering a meal for the whole office.
3. Halloween Office and Cubicle Decorations
Take the office celebrations to the next level with crazy fun decorations. Allow team members to get creative with synthetic cobwebs, plastic spiders, and some bloody handprints. Have a shared workspace? No Problem! Encourage team members to collaborate on this office competition and just like the costume contest give prizes to whoever knocks it out of the graveyard.
4. Pumpkin Carving Contests
If your really looking to connect team members hold a pumpkin contest after work so kids can be included! If you’re looking for something just for the office you can break down the competition between departments or groups.
5. Schedule a Philanthropic Activity
This spooky day is also a great time to give back to the community so why not offer team members the chance to volunteer! With the support of the company team members feel both inspired and gratified by having the chance to give back.
6. A little Treat
Keep it simple and encourage team members to bring treats for everyone to share. Better yet, have everyone pick up a few treats from each cubicle and bring your employees back to the days of going door to door trick or treating.
7. Bobbing for Apples and Other Games
Looking to give your office a major morale boost? Offer team members different ways for everyone to express their Halloween spirit. Why not have a day or give an hour or two for some quick games and activities? Not only are they easy to set up but only take around 30-60 mintues to complete.
- Guess the candy corn pieces in a jar
- Wrap up your team members in a nice mummy-style toilet paper wrap or streamers.
- Pumpkin bowling the best use of pumpkins some could argue.
- And of course, you can’t go wrong with the old bobbing for apples!
Halloween is a great holiday to boost morale and bring team members closer together. As long as some guidelines are set in which team members can opt-out of the festive without feeling pressure and wearing work appropriate costumes celebrating Halloween in the office is a foolproof plan!
*A word of caution*
If you think your Halloween costume is offensive or a bit too revealing, tone it down or change your idea. It’s always best to get a second opinion than taking a risk that may not pan out the way you were hoping. Keep HR happy and enjoy the festivities!
