Loving exercise doesn’t mean spending hours in the gym. You can get all the physical activity you need in at least a hundred different ways, find what works for you, and as long as you make it a part of your everyday routine you’ll be golden. More times than not the benefits of exercise outweigh the negatives in terms of overall improved health. So how do you overcome exercise aversion?

Make it Personal
Don’t force yourself to do something you don’t enjoy, find a way to make exercise fit you and what you find fun. If your social, classes such as Zumba or even recreational sports teams may be what you’re looking for. No matter what you like exercising with friends is never the wrong way to go. Connect with friends and work to keep each other motivated. If more of a person who enjoys some solo time our suggestion would be swimming or running or workout via youtube.
Don’t Give Up
Making a habit takes a while for it to become a new behavior. Allow yourself some time to adapt. One way to ease exercise into your routine is getting active at the same time each day.
Work It In
Exercise shouldn’t feel like a chore and the best way to avoid those feelings is to slowly build it into your schedule. There are endless ways of adapting exercise into your lifestyle and it shouldn’t come at the cost of giving up time with friends and family.
Break It Up
Fit in physical activity when you can not take rest days and do shorter sessions until you get into the groove of things. Two or three smaller workouts such as a HITT or yoga class will have you meeting the recommended 150 mintues of recommended activity each week.
Keep it up
If you take a rest day or miss a workout here and there, don’t worry about it. Everybody struggles and it’s okay to break your routine. The difference between keeping up and giving up is if you decide to get back in the gym the next day.
Exercise isn’t always fun, you may even hate it. That’s okay. You may need to try different activities to figure out what works for you but once you find your favorite workout method try and make it into a habit. Stopping hating exercise because it may take a few times to realize you like it.
